Meeting other writers from the Bay Area

            I went to a thing…in Oakland… for screenwriters… yeah lol.
Repost from @rafaelcasal • Hey Bay Area screenwriters! A lot of us don’t know each other, and it makes it hard to feel like there is a community of storytellers who want to make tv/film in the bay. Not just want, but are actively pursuing it. I’d love to help change that, so Daveed and I are hosting a screenwriters Salon. Which is a fancy way to say stand around like nerds and talk about storytelling, discuss our obstacles, and see that we are not alone in the place we call home.. Big love, Bay Area. #localsonly #linkinbio

TRIBE Mentorship - Kristina Thomas (That's me!)

2021 was a year, and everything I learned was because of TRIBE. Now that the mentorship with Amy Aniobe is coming to an end, I thought I’d reflect on my time as a mentee.

      "Worth It" Posters

I used my lack of skills to help create the poster for the short film “Worth It.“

      Flashback to U-N-I webseries

I started thinking about my time in graduate school. Your girl was hungry as hell to create. Webseries were a big deal and I wanted to make a docuseries instead. That’s when I heard from local rap group: U-N-I.

Shooting a Short Film in a Pandemic

It’s been three years since directing “House of Balls.” I took a chance on myself and shot my short concept for my feature, “Worth It.“ Talk about losing it all to make something that’s worth it to you.

      Grad school or nah?

I thought graduate school was for me until I was in graduate school. If I would’ve known what I did now, I might have possibly not have gone OR would’ve stayed to get my Ph.D.

      2021... Hello

I mean 2020 sucked but it also gave me a lot to learn and focus on *drum roll"*… peace. Which ended up leading me to Hawaii to end the year. Don’t judge me.

Elephant Seminar Series - The Aftermath

The panel is over, but what did I learn. Well, the impetus for the seminar series was to create a space where professionals and students could discuss topical race related communication issues that reflect the current business and social climate - ours, was the entertainment panel.

      New Headshots - New Me

Friday I took new headshots. I wanted to show a new me. I’ve been working out since April and lost 20 pounds. With that, I’ve been shedding a lot of dead weight, mental shifts of how I perceive myself, and who and what I surround myself around. Most of it has been in solitude writing and reading… basically living in peace, quiet and solitude. Alone in my own thoughts. In which at times can be dangerous.

San Antonio Black International Film Festival - BlackLining

I’m part of the San Antonio Black Independent Film Festival coming next month. The BlackLining film block that I am in are short films focused on social justice issues with a focus centered conversation around: what's happening now in society, and how it's impacting you emotionally, as well as how your voice and feelings have transformed you to use your artistic talent as a storyteller and filmmaker. What does your narrative speak to? Why was that important to you? We'll simply engage in a collective experience of open dialogue as it relates to your film, and how our work connects with universal audiences.
