Grad school or nah?

I keep getting this question every few months:

Is graduate school right for me?

For me there was no doubt I was going to graduate school. It was more for me the question of what school would I get in to? I saw graduate school as a device to teach film and also learn more about production, writing and anything else I felt I didn’t know or learn in undergrad at Howard University.

I got lucky, I got into University of Southern California - one of the top ten film schools. I learned a lot. Grinded a whole f**king lot. But above all, I learned, traveled, and defined myself during graduate: in this industry you’ll learn you have to do that in order for others to understand you. They’ll take you more seriously. Think you’re worlds and smart because of it.

What they didn’t tell me is that I wouldn’t be able to get a professor position after graduate school because I didn’t have the appropriate education to teach, and/or I didn’t have a Ph D. With that, I still had what I learned and a plethora of people to call alum, mentors and friends.

Recently I came across a writer on twitter who talked about the same thing - DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO TO GRADUATE SCHOOL? Here’s some questions to ask yourself. Hit the link below?
