Meeting other writers from the Bay Area

I saw the post immediately from my friend Saeed, aka Balance. The post went like this:

Repost from @rafaelcasal

Hey Bay Area screenwriters! A lot of us don’t know each other, and it makes it hard to feel like there is a community of storytellers who want to make tv/film in the bay. Not just want, but are actively pursuing it. I’d love to help change that, so Daveed and I are hosting a screenwriters Salon. Which is a fancy way to say stand around like nerds and talk about storytelling, discuss our obstacles, and see that we are not alone in the place we call home. Hosting a small second Salon this Saturday, really limited capacity, go to the link in my bio to register! Totally free, very few slots, keeping it communal and about the game. Big love, Bay Area. #localsonly #linkinbio

So I signed up, pressed submit and hoped for the best. Then — I got in!

On Saturday I got to attend the #ScreenwritersSalon put on by #DreamswithFriendsInc @rafaelcasal and @daveeddiggs. Honestly I hadn’t been out the house while being back in the Bay Area, and I was excited my first big outing was going to this event. COVID has really made me feel like I can’t go anywhere. The numbers are still high and — I can’t get sick, ya heard me?

When I got out of my car, I immediately heard a writer say, “Hey, you want to walk together?“ HELL YES! I’m such a writer, I hate parties sometimes if I don’t know anyone going in, if I do, I’m there for an hour and I sneak out; Irish goodbye style. But after chatting for a few with my new friend Rayna, we entered inside. The venue was small and compact for our little group. Being outside with writers, I felt in my element in a way and less claustrophobic but cold lol. I met a lot great feature writers I never knew were out here. We got to chat a lot about our writing styles, genres, and most importantly, how to make our shit better to have our work seen!

I tried to take pictures but I was so caught up with meeting folks, you can see in the last two slides - I didn’t do very well because I was truly happy to meet other writers.

Again, thank you to Rafael and Daveed for putting this on 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾 and congrats to them on wrapping their second season of BLINDSPOTTING for STARZ.
